THE ANCIENT MARINER PART THE SECOND

“All in a hot and copper sky,

The bloody sun, at noon,”

This metaphor means orange sky and a boiling hot sun. A copper sky means it hurts to look at it just like bright reflective metal.

The bloody sun means it’s like a leaking tomato and all of the juice is coming out of it.

HOGARTH!!!

  1. I really like your reference to copper and the correct examination of the metaphor there. In relation to the ‘bloody’ sun – what do you think Coleridge might be saying about the sun’s intentions by using such a image?
